Both Kevin Campion and Bob Hruby were inspired to pursue landscape architecture by childhood experiences of water, woods and the interaction between built and natural environments. Quittapahilla Creek was a catalyst for Pennsylvania-raised Campion, who grew up beside it. \u201cI witnessed how small human actions\u2014runoff from roofs, lawn chemicals\u2014flowed into and shaped the health of the creek,\u201d he recalls.<\/p>\n
Hruby split his time between a DC suburb and his family\u2019s Chesapeake Bay cottage on the Sassafras River. \u201cMoving between streetlights and air conditioners and the rhythms of the natural world made me aware of contrast,\u201d he says. \u201cBuilt versus wild, order versus freedom.\u201d<\/p>\n
Campion studied landscape architecture in the UK and worked for an Annapolis firm for 12 years before founding his own firm in 2010; Hruby joined a year later, bringing with him 16 years of experience working at DC firms. \u201cWe design gardens at the intersection of nature and architecture,\u201d Campion observes. \u201cEach is a living framework of our clients\u2019 lives.\u201d<\/p>\n
The firm\u2019s portfolio ranges from intimate urban gardens to large country estates. Its award-winning projects have been widely published. \u201cOur team has evolved,\u201d Hruby says, \u201cbut our goal has always been to connect people with the land through joy, humor and creative collaboration.\u201d<\/p>\n
