Jennifer Horn\u2019s interest in botany stems from time spent as a child living in Malaysia, where she played in a garden full of mango trees and orchids. A high school job at a nursery inspired her to earn a degree in horticulture followed by a master\u2019s in landscape architecture. After practicing in New York for 11 years, she moved to the DC area and launched her firm in 2009.<\/p>\n
Horn & Co. collaborates with homeowners to create designs that are a natural extension of the house, the personalities of the clients and the environment. The firm considers how the use of a landscape will change over time. \u201cGarden design is temporal,\u201d Horn observes. \u201cWe think about how gardens change seasonally, but also of how they\u2019ll change over years.\u201d<\/p>\n
The social and environmental impact of a site are primary considerations. Horn is committed to green design, prioritizing local materials and ethically sourced products. \u201cEnhancing the beauty of the natural world comes with a commitment to minimize negative impacts on the environment,\u201d she notes.<\/p>\n
Horn & Co. has received numerous awards from APLD and regional ASLA chapters as well as Home & Design, Annapolis Home and Interiors Mid-Atlantic. In 2026, the firm added an office in Middleburg, Virginia.<\/p>\n
