Charles Warren, principal of design and co-founder of Teass \ Warren Architects, always had an interest in buildings and spaces. He spent time in Japan as a child and was inspired by the craftsmanship of its temples and shrines. “Once I took a history of architecture class in college, I knew what I wanted to do with my life,” he shares.

Warren and partner Will Teass launched their firm 10 years ago “out of a desire to be more connected to the construction process while building strong relationships with clients,” Warren recounts. The firm designs new homes and large-scale renovations and additions in what the partners term “approachable modern” style; Warren gravitates toward natural materials and simple detailing, favoring comfort over formality in designs that are tailored to clients’ needs and lifestyles. Sustainability and universal-design elements are incorporated so each space will work for generations to come.

“We guide clients through myriad design decisions with an organizational approach that controls chaos and keeps projects on track, handling complexities while delivering stellar design and creative solutions,” Warren notes. “We love design challenges—that’s when a project comes to life.”

Teass \ Warren Architects received Washingtonian, AIA NoVa and ASID awards in 2024 and 2025.
