Charles Moore, AIA

As the child of an art historian father, Charles Moore took family road trips seeking out buildings to marvel at. He also read from an extensive library of architecture books “that introduced me to the inspiring role architects play in shaping the built environment,” he recounts. Following attendance at the Corcoran School of Art and a course of study in architecture at Virginia Tech, he worked at several prestigious DC firms before launching his own in 1988.

Today, Moore Architects, PC, is a predominantly residential studio with a staff of about 10 designing custom homes, renovations, additions, adaptive reuse and historic preservation in the DMV region and beyond. “Each project is designed from the inside out, shaped first by how the client lives and then by the context of its site and street,” Moore notes. “We don’t apply a signature style—we apply signature rigor.”

A five-phase process—from initial conversation to schematic design, design development, construction drawings and full construction administration—gives clients clear milestones and a single point of contact throughout. Says Moore, “Our goal is to make the entire experience as rewarding as the finished home.”

In 2025, Moore Architects, PC, received two awards from DESIGNArlington’s bi-annual design competition and was named Best Architect by Falls Church News-Press.
