MCDStudio is an award-winning, boutique firm based in Bethesda. Principals Matthew McDonald and Jennifer Verbeke each have over 20 years of experience practicing in the DC area. After studying architecture—McDonald at Virginia Tech and Verbeke at Carnegie Mellon—both honed their skills at architecture studios and design/build firms before launching MCDStudio in 2013.

The partners focus mainly on unique residential projects ranging from kitchen remodels to custom homes. “We enjoy the variety of scale and design opportunities,” remarks McDonald. “Working in the DMV exposes us to many architectural styles; we can go from a modern row house renovation in DC one day to restoring a historic farmhouse in the Virginia foothills the next.”

The firm collaborates with clients and industry partners, listening and using guidance, expertise and creative thinking to turn clients’ dreams into reality. The latest 3D and virtual-reality technology helps homeowners visualize what their space can look like. “By using these tools early, we can make better-informed decisions that ensure a smoother construction process down the line,” says Verbeke.

McDonald and Verbeke also value giving back to the profession and wider community. Verbeke is a member of AIA Maryland’s board and McDonald serves on the Architecture Advisory Board at Virginia Tech.
