Hill & Hurtt Architects
Joshua O. Hill, AIA, LEED AP, NCARB | Eric B. Hurtt, AIA, NCARB | Mary-Margaret Stacy, AIA
Principals Joshua Hill, Eric Hurtt and Mary-Margaret Stacy were all inspired as kids by a love of houses. “We all developed strengths and passions through drawing, traveling, studying details and recognizing how history relates to place and the built environment,” says Hill. “We see each project as an opportunity to change day-to-day lives.”
Hill and Hurtt founded the firm in 2016; Stacy joined in 2018. Today, they work with a staff of four designing additions, renovations, restorations and new homes in diverse styles and locations. “We share core principles of functionality and beauty; sensitivity to scale and context; and attention to material selection, detail and craft,” Hurtt notes. “Creating warm, functional, refined and personal spaces is the goal.”
The architects believe that a close, collaborative relationship with clients is key to designing homes that reflect their values and lives. “We begin by listening carefully to our clients’ needs and goals, looking for opportunities that improve their homes while challenging assumptions,” Stacy relates. “This approach extends to construction as we work with consultants and craftspeople.”
Hill & Hurtt Architects has been honored with numerous awards, including design awards from The American Institute of Architects Potomac Valley Chapter and the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art.
