Harrison Design
Mark Hughes, AIA | Bulent Baydar, AIA
Mark Hughes and Bulent Baydar bring a combined 70 years of architectural experience to their work, allowing them to anticipate design and technical challenges and integrate cost-effective strategies. “A well-crafted design should endure over time, enrich daily life and respond thoughtfully to its environment,” Hughes observes. “Our architecture balances proportional clarity, material integrity and livability.”
Harrison Design is a multi-office practice that was founded in Atlanta in 1991; Hughes and Baydar established a DC office in 2010. Today, their 10-person team focuses on delivering thoughtful residential architecture in the Mid-Atlantic region.
“Every project begins with listening,” Baydar says. “We take time to understand how our clients live, what inspires them and what they envision for their future. By studying the site, the architectural context and the rhythms of daily life, we shape a plan that feels both intentional and deeply personal.”
Throughout the design and construction phases, the architects serve as guides and advocates. “We collaborate with builders, consultants and artisans to maintain design integrity while remaining responsive and solution-oriented,” Hughes explains. “The experience should feel organized, inspiring and well-supported from the first sketch to the final walk through.”
A Rizzoli coffee table book of work by Harrison Design will be published in Fall 2026.
