Maria Galiani fell in love with design at age 10, when she glimpsed an architectural model of her aunt’s home, then under construction. “It was seeing the 3D model of her vision and later visiting the finished space that fascinated me,” she recalls. Antiquing with her mother later on, she says, “I was drawn to incorporating one-of-a-kind pieces that add character, creating spaces that feel elegant and refined yet livable.”

Galiani founded her namesake firm in 2008. She brings more than 30 years of experience to her practice, which specializes in large-scale renovations and new home construction. Galiani and her design associate, Kayla Williams, collaborate on every project. “Our spaces are memorable and thoughtfully tailored to reflect the personalities of our clients,” Galiani shares.

GDG highlights a relationship-based approach, working closely with clients to understand their aesthetic preferences, lifestyle and personal story. “We don’t lead with style trends, but with people,” Galiani notes. “I love it when someone looks around a space I have completed and uses the same words the client originally used to describe their vision. That’s when I know I have succeeded.”

In 2025, Architectural Digest included Galiani Design Group on its Design Excellence in DC list.
