FORM Garden Design

Kevin Gaughan grew up exploring the woods in his home state of Connecticut, intuitively drawn to the feeling of being immersed in the landscape. Working at a young age in landscape installation and maintenance, he gained hands-on experience that laid the foundation for his design eduction. After earning his landscape architecture degree, Gaughan traveled extensively throughout Europe and Latin America, further expanding his understanding of culture and sustainability. He later honed those skills while working at a leading firm in the area, before founding Baltimore-based FORM Garden Design.

“My vision was to create legible gardens, informed by architecture, inspired by nature and enjoyed by people,” he recounts. “We are known for our refined, plant-forward landscapes, collaborative approach and commitment to getting the details right.”

Every project starts with an understanding of how the client wants to live outdoors—how they gather, relax, entertain, garden and move through space. Gaughan and his team then develop a plan that balances beauty, function, site conditions and long-term stewardship. “We act as creative lead and guide, collaborating with architects, builders and craftspeople to ensure the vision is realized with precision,” he explains. “Our outdoor environments are designed not only to be beautiful but to be lived in and to mature gracefully over time.”

FORM Garden Design received two Maryland ASLA awards in 2025 and a Home & Design Grand Award in 2025.
