Ed Ball Designs
Ed Ball, Assoc. ASLA
As a teenager, a job in a nursery taught Ed Ball to appreciate plants, materials and how spaces are assembled. “That hands-on experience showed me how design and construction come together,” Ball says, “and led me to landscape architecture.”
Ed Ball Designs is a design-build practice focused on bespoke residential landscapes across Northern Virginia. Now with 30 years of experience, it brings together architectural design, horticulture and construction. “We think through how everything will be built and connected,” says Ball, “not just how it looks on paper.”
Each project begins with an understanding of how clients live outdoors. “It’s about how families will live in the space,” says Ball, “as well as how it will function and be used day-to-day.”
Designs are developed alongside budget, ensuring proposals are buildable and aligned with investment. “We help clients make decisions early,” Ball explains, “so there are no surprises when the project moves forward.” This integrated approach allows projects to progress with clarity, resulting in landscapes that function as intended and mature over time.
Ed Ball Designs was named Best Landscape Architect by DC Magazine and has received Landscape Contractors Association Excellence Awards, as well as an APLD International Landscape Design Award.
