Timothy L. Clites, AIA

Jeremy Smith, AIA; Barry West

When he was a child, Timothy Clites’ parents designed and built their family home in rural Pennsylvania. “Surrounded by an extended family of carpenters,” he recalls, “I absorbed a love for construction, craft and design.” Later, a local architect encouraged Clites to study at the Boston Architectural Center, an experience he found “transformative;” he founded Clites Architects PC in Middleburg, Virginia, in 2011.

Today, Clites and a staff of six design architecture in the DMV in a “team first” process that fosters relationships with interior designers, landscape architects, builders and tradespeople. “Our work seeks to blend simplicity and regional architectural vocabularies into designs grounded in our clients’ aspirations,” Clites says. “Our most important core value is engaging as a team—design, construction and clients—to create a positive environment where projects thrive and results shine.”

Clites Architects instills each project with a clear sense of the client: who they are, how they live and what gives them a sense of home. “These considerations drive our aesthetics, planning and materials,” Clites relates. “The biggest challenge is often to listen enough and ask the right questions.”

He adds, “It’s extremely rewarding to see families finding joy, comfort and an enduring sense of place in the homes we create.”
