Michael Patrick’s world was shaped by two architect parents who inspired an early passion in him for the profession. “My path was to fall ever more in love with architecture,” he recounts. “I eventually followed my mother to a high-end residential firm, then joined BarnesVanze in 2014.”

With two other principals, Ellen Hatton and Wayne Adams, Patrick leads a staff of 23 executing projects across the Mid-Atlantic and beyond; Ankie Barnes and Stephen Vanze, who cofounded the firm in 1988, remain on staff. “Our tagline, ‘beauty and authenticity in architecture,’ expresses the fusion of historic knowledge and design expertise that we embody in our work,” Patrick observes. “The firm’s extensive experience with the great traditions of architecture makes its work richer.”
