The principals of The Drawing Board, Inc., Joey Barrick, Peter Miles and Filipe Silva, share a fascination with how spaces shape daily life. Residential architecture allows them to work at a human scale, creating homes that feel intuitive, personal and enduring. “What unites us is a belief that architecture is not only about form, but about care—listening, translating needs into space and guiding clients through a complex process with clarity and confidence,” says Miles. “The opportunity to combine design rigor with a collaborative, relationship-driven process motivates our work.”
The Drawing Board, Inc., was founded in 1991 and evolved into a small, forward-thinking practice in which every project directly involves the principals, from initial conversations through construction. “This structure allows for a level of attentiveness, continuity and accountability that clients value, particularly on complex custom homes and whole-house renovations,” Silva observes.
Each project begins with research into clients’ needs and lifestyle as well as the existing house or site. Ensuring a successful outcome means striving for comfort and longevity. “A home should feel intuitive to live in, not precious or complicated,” notes Barrick. “When spaces are carefully planned, well-proportioned and thoughtfully detailed, they support daily routines effortlessly and allow a home to grow with its occupants over time.”
