Randall Mars Architects
Randall Mars, AIA, NCARB
At a young age, Randall Mars visited a Philadelphia synagogue that happened to have been designed by Frank Lloyd Wright—and even then, Mars was impressed with its beauty and drama. When a high school guidance counselor suggested he marry two proclivities—for drawing and math—by pursuing architecture, Mars’ career path was set.
Following grad school, he plied his trade at prestigious architecture firms in DC “where I learned how to design from the inside out, focusing on details,” says the architect, who launched his own firm
in 1989.
Today, Randall Mars Architects tackles all sizes and types of renovations and new construction. An intentionally small staff means that Mars is personally involved on every project. “We listen to our clients and and our responses directly address their needs and desires,” he says. “We’re cost/budget conscious and advocate for our clients.”
Space and light play major roles in every project—and over time, the firm’s portfolio has leaned further in a modern direction with an emphasis on warmth and livability. “After practicing for 37 years,” Mars observes, “I seek projects which allow me to apply my design aesthetic and knowledge of materiality, design and detail in the most thoughtful ways.”
